Actinides behaviour after inhalation exposure of rats to industrial NpO2

چکیده
Neptunium-237 is a long-live emitters formed after americium-241 decay which is mainly produced after irradiation of nuclear fuels. NpO2 can be produced after irradiated fuel reprocessing. Without any experimental results on this chemical form after inhalation, the ICRP considered NpO2 as a type M compound. Preliminary results suggested that after inhalation exposure of rats to NpO2 the biological behaviour of Np look like a type S compound (1). These results were obtained by liquid scintillation measurements which does not discriminate the different radionuclides also contained in NpO2, especially plutonium. The aim of this study is to characterise the dissolution parameters of Np and Pu, after exposure of rats to industrial Np oxide aerosols, and to compare the behaviour of two different powders.

Construction of an exposure chamber for animals and its use for inhalation exposure to welding fumes and gases.
An inhalation exposure system, consisting of an inhalation chamber and an generating and feeding device for welding fumes and gases with a welding robot, was constructed and examined for its application to experimental toxicology for ventilatory responses of conscious rats to welding fumes and gases. The exposure system allowed an inhalation of fresh welding fumes and gases, and could supply ai...
متن کاملPreconditioning by the inhalation of pure oxygen protects rat’s cochlear function against noise-induced hearing loss
Background: Occupational noise-induced hearing loss (ONIHL) is a hearing disorder that affects workers all over the world. Preconditioning with several mild or less potent stressors will effectively prevent the development of noise-induced hearing loss. This study investigated the possible preventive effects of normobaric hyperoxia preconditioning on preventing the noise-induced hearing impairm...
متن کاملDissolution of stainless steel welding fumes in the rat lung: an x ray microanalytical study.
The dissolution of stainless steel welding fumes produced by manual metal arc (MMA) and metal inert gas (MIG) techniques was studied by transmission electron microscopy and quantitative x ray microanalysis in the lungs of rats after inhalation exposure. Rats exposed to stainless steel fumes generated by MMA were found to have two particle populations of different behaviour in their lung tissue....
متن کاملAlteration of brain levels of neurotransmitters and amino acids in male F344 rats induced by three-week repeated inhalation exposure to 1-bromopropane.
The present study investigated the effects of 1-bromopropane (1BP) on brain neuroactive substances of rats to determine the extent of its toxicity to the central nervous system (CNS). We measured the changes in neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, catecholamine, serotonin and amino acids) and their metabolites or precursors in eight brain regions after inhalation exposure to 1BP at 50 to 1,000 ppm...
متن کاملThe mammalian toxicity of fluomine dust.
Fluomine is a cobalt chelate compound which complexes molecular oxygen and releases it on heating. This property has led to its use a a regenerable oxygen source in high-altitude aircraft. Investigations into the acute effects of exposure to fluomine by various routes were undertaken as first steps in the toxicological characterization of the material. Single-dose rat and mouse oral administrat...
